Ever-improving defender Jodi Tod is poised to be a valuable acquisition for the Magic this year. After starting her career with the Flyers where she spent three years, Tod originally from Hawke’s Bay, spent the last two seasons with the Flames which included an off-season stint playing in the UK league. During that time, Tod, 27, has matured into a very promising and competent defender, her value further strengthened by the ability to play all three defensive positions equally well. Strong through court, Tod’s tight marking and exceptional standing jump provide the hallmarks of her defensive qualities. Keen to get back to the North Island to be closer to family, Tod is enjoying her new lifestyle in Mt Maunganui with nine-year-old daughter Emerson and continuing her teacher training by correspondence through the Christchurch College of Education. ``I’m definitely stoked to get in this team,’’ she said. ``With the players that are here, it’s another step in my learning and my game development. The first aim at the moment is to get a bib, fighting to get on the court and being a part of it all. This whole experience with the calibre of player here is definitely going to be another step-up in my netball.’’ |
