Laura Langman
Positions:
WD, C, WA

In a sign of what was to follow, Laura Langman first made headlines in 2003 when she was named in the Magic team while still at school. Showing a maturity beyond her years, and a level of performance that set her apart, Langman, 21, has continued to make the headlines following an inspiring first season at elite level. The gritty midcourter capped a meteoric rise when she was elevated from the New Zealand squad to the Silver Ferns in 2005 for the home series against England. She also captained a triumphant New Zealand under-21 team to the world youth title in Florida that year and is now an automatic selection for the Silver Ferns. In the Magic environment this talented midcourter added another string to her bow by taking over the reins at centre to go with her undoubted prowess as a quality wing defence. She has since progressed to playing both roles at international level. As her standing in the game has risen, Langman’s affinity with the Magic remains undiminished. ``It’s very special and a unique environment,’’ she said. ``It’s just awesome, a great team to be a part of and I’m really looking forward to this season.’’ Langman grew up in the farming community of Te Pahu and progressed to the senior team via the Magic Development team. She is studying for a Bachelor of Business Analysis degree at Waikato University.
