Aisha Bower Out With Knee Injury

Offsetting the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic’s pleasing first preseason hit out against the NSW Swifts on Wednesday night, is the news that Aisha Bower has sustained a tear to the articular cartilage of her right knee.

The injury occurred during a preseason training session when she landed awkwardly and twisted the knee.  She has been seen by the team sports physician and following an MRI, is waiting to see a surgeon next week for further review and opinion.  Although it isn't yet known, she is expected to be out for a few months.

It is a blow for the 21 year-old who made her Magic and ANZ Championship debut in round twelve of last year’s competition.

“I’m absolutely gutted to be injured as I was looking forward to building on my performances from last year and building on the overall team efforts as well,” says Aisha Bower.

“I can’t control what’s happened, but can control how I cope with it and approach my rehabilitation, so I’m seeing this as a new challenge.”

Head Coach Julie Fitzgerald says that with plenty of experience from last year, the close-knit Magic family will help Aisha through her injury.

“We really feel for Aisha,” says Julie Fitzgerald.

“She has been making great progress and I know she’ll bounce back fitter and stronger than ever.

“Unfortunately injuries are a part of sport and we certainly know that from last year and once again we’ll use our Magic bond to help her through her rehabilitation.

“We’ll start looking for a temporary replacement, seeing who might be available with the ability to play at the level the ANZ Championship demands.”
