The Waikato Bay of Plenty AVIS Magic have confirmed the re-signing of Head Coach Mary-Jane Araroa, reinforcing the club’s commitment to continuity and long-term growth.
Araroa will continue to lead the Magic as the team builds toward the upcoming season, following a year that delivered valuable lessons.
General Manager of AVIS Magic, Gary Dawson, said retaining Araroa was an important step forward.
“Mary-Jane brings strong leadership, a clear vision, and a deep understanding of our players and environment. Her commitment to performance, development, and culture is setting the tone for the season ahead.”
Araroa said her decision to re-sign was driven by belief in the group and the work underway.
“I’m proud of this team and the way we’ve met the challenges in front of us. Last season demanded a lot, but it sharpened our focus and reinforced what we stand for, as well as what success looks like for us as a group.”
“The work done behind the scenes has been important, and the progress we’re already seeing is encouraging. With a strong core group of players returning and the addition of our NZ U21 World Cup players, we’re excited about what we’re building and confident in the direction we’re heading together.”
Magic have also re-signed assistant coach Rebecca Gabel, who continues to play an important role within the programme. Gabel brings strong connection, insight, and support to the playing group, and her ongoing partnership with Araroa remains a valued part of the Magic environment.
Over the off-season, Magic have focused on reviewing performance, strengthening connections, and making ongoing refinements as the team builds toward the season ahead.
