AVIS Magic is saddened to announce that midcourter Claire O’Brien has informed the club she will not be returning to the team for the 2026 ANZ Premiership season.
O’Brien joined Magic in 2024, bringing her skill and flair to the midcourt. Over her two seasons, she became known for her pinpoint feeds into the shooting circle and her ability to spark attacking play. Claire’s fun-loving character and quick wit made her a favourite among teammates, staff, and fans alike.
“Playing for the magic has been a massive part of my journey. I am so grateful for the past two seasons and support from my incredible teammates, coaches and management. A big thank you to the fans for all their love, have felt their support all the way through.” O’Brien said.
Magic head coach Mary-Jane Araroa said O’Brien’s influence extended well beyond the scoreboard.
“Claire has been a key contributor to our environment and culture. She has dedicated herself to the Magic dress and has been an incredible role model for our younger players. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors. Her breakout season in 2025 culminated in her receiving her Silver Fern debut, a moment we were all proud of. We wish her continued success in her next venture.”
AVIS Magic thank Claire for her contribution and commitment to the team, and she will always be part of the Magic whānau.
