Friday night's Avis Magic awards dinner, hosted by Sky City Hamilton, brought together players, coaching and management staff, sponsors, volunteers, members and whānau to celebrate the 2026 season and recognise everyone who has shaped Magic on and off the court.
More than an awards evening, it was a celebration of the power, heart and magic that defines this team, from the players on court to the people behind the scenes who make it all possible.
A number of awards were presented on the night, recognising standout performances and contributions across the season.
The evening's highest individual honour, the Laura Langman Medal, was presented to co-captain Erena Mikaere, recognising an outstanding 2026 season and the leadership, resilience and commitment she has shown throughout her career in a Magic dress.
Although unable to attend in person, Magic great Laura Langman shared a video message congratulating Mikaere on receiving the medal that carries her name.
"I know what Erena gives as a teammate and also as a leader. She's such a special person. To still be playing over 150 games is incredible and you deserve all the accolades. When I'm asked what makes a great teammate, I always reflect on how you'd prepare an usk before games. Your intent and energy at trainings, it's all those little things that make you an incredible team player." Said Langman.
Co-captain Georgie Edgecombe's outstanding season was recognised with two major awards, claiming both the Ticketek Members' Player of the Year and Bay Venues Players' Player of the Year honours. Voted by both Magic members and her teammates, the double recognition reflected the respect she earned across the board.
"It's very special to receive these awards. Netball is the ultimate team sport. There are plenty of sports where you can stand out as an individual, but in netball you only shine if your teammates are shining too. This award could have gone to anyone who stepped out on court for the Magic this season because you're all amazing." Said Edgecombe.
Brooklyn Murray was named Lodge Rookie of the Year after an impressive debut season, with her work ethic, determination and growth making an immediate impact.
The awards recognised individual performances, but the night was about the whole organisation: the players, the coaching and management staff, and everyone who supports them, and how much of the season's success comes down to the group behind it.
