Former Olympic cyclist and Otago Rebels netballer Alison Shanks has been announced as Commercial Partnerships Manager for the Splice Construction Magic.

Shanks brings a unique perspective and set of skills to this position having played elite netball for the Otago Rebels and achieving outstanding success as a track cyclist including gold medals at the 2009 and 2012 World Championships and the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

“Alison understands the importance of a strong, enduring relationship between commercial partners and elite athletes and teams. Her background in marketing and her commercial acumen makes her ideally suited for this important position,” Magic interim CEO Gary Dawson said.

“In her new role Alison will have a focus on nurturing and developing our current commercial partnerships as well as expanding commercial opportunities and will have oversight of the marketing and communication functions for Magic.” 

 Shanks will replace Grant Metcalfe who is moving on to a CEO position with a Waikato based company. 

“Grant has done an outstanding job leading the growth of Magic’s commercial base in an environment that has been extremely challenging over the last three years. His passion and dedication for all things Magic as well as his hard work means that he leaves behind significant legacy that we will build on,” Dawson said.
